GALO GONZALES
Author(s): Jeremiah
Songbook: Love Songs Songbook, Aaron David Songbook
KeyWords: Witnessing (About),
I once spoke to a Mexican man,
He said his name was Galo Gonzales,
And his people couldn't walk safely
On the white side of town.
He came cryin, cryin' to me.
He said, "If there's a God in Heaven,
Then why aren't my people free?"
Well, I answered and said, "I've always been told
We live in a land of equality,
But it's brown you're wrong, white you're right,
And that's how they play their game."
First Chorus:
I said, "I know I may be a white man,
But my color don't make me free,
Because when I preach the truth on the white side of town
They do the same thing to me."
Then I said, "Jesus, He was a Jewish man,
He traveled all throughout Israel,
But He couldn't walk safely
On the Jewish side of town."
He said, "I know I may be a Jew man,
But My blood's gonna make you free."
So the Jews took one of their own people
And they crucified Him on a tree.
Second Chorus:
"Oh, I know I may be a white man,
But my color don't make me free,
Because when I preach the truth on the white side of town
They do the same thing to me."
[Repeat Second Chorus]
Third Chorus:
"Oh, I know I may be a white man,
But my color don't make me free,
Because when I preach the truth on the white side of town
They do the same thing to me."
[Repeat Third Chorus]
