Using the Spanish HomeARC (1st edition) together with the English HomeARC 98

         If you have already received the English HomeARC 98 and would like to use it together with the Spanish HomeARC, here is a little (or maybe not so little) explanation on how to set it up. The good thing is that you only have to do this once.

First of all you should install the English HomeARC 98, unless you have already done this. To add the Spanish HomeARC, do NOT use the installation diskettes that were supplied with the Spanish HomeARC. Just insert the Spanish HomeARC CD. Then in the HomeARC bar, press the "Options" button, open the "Title" folder, press the "Groups" button, then the "Locate" button. The "Locate" dialog will appear.

Enter the letter of the drive where you have your Spanish HomeARC CD, followed by a colon (":") and a backslash (""). Usually you'll use "D:" as the search location. If, however, your CD-ROM drive letter is E:, you would use "E:", etc. (Note: Make sure to include the "" at the end of the line. If it is omitted, the search may not work.)

Select OK. HomeARC will now search for any ARC Groups that it can find on that drive, and will then load them into your Groups list. You might be asked to insert one of the HomeARC 98 CDs. In that case, just press Cancel.

Press OK several times to close all the open dialog boxes.

You should now have access to all the Spanish HomeARC groups. The only problem is that the proper location of certain English HomeARC groups will have been overwritten when locating the Spanish HomeARC groups. So you need to re-locate these English groups.

To do that, insert the English HomeARC 98 Text Library CD in your CD unit. Then again in the HomeARC bar, press the "Options" button, open the "Title" folder, press the "Groups" button, then the "Locate" button. The "Locate" dialog will appear.

Enter once again the drive letter of your English HomeARC 98 Text Library CD, followed by a colon (":") and a backslash (""). Usually you'll use "D:" as the search location. If, however, your CD-ROM drive letter is E:, you would use "E:", etc. (Note: Make sure to include the "" at the end of the line. If it is omitted, the search may not work.)

Select OK. HomeARC will now search for any ARC Groups that it can find on that drive, and will then load them into your Groups list. If you get a message that a HomeARC group is not found, just press Cancel.

Press OK several times to close all the open dialog boxes.

You should now have access to all the Spanish HomeARC groups & English HomeARC 98 groups. But your group list will be cluttered with a bunch of old English HomeARC groups that you no longer need. To fix that, open Windows Explorer (or any other File Manager), go to your Windows folder (usually in C:) & locate the file HomeARC.INI. (It might appear just as HomeARC. You should easily find it if you press once on the "Modified" column to sort your files by date. It should be one of the first on the list.)

Press the right mouse button on the HomeARC.INI file, then press the left mouse button on "Open". The file should open in Notepad. Go down about 3 screens until you come to the section title:

[Volumes]

         There should be 2 lines of text in this section. Type a third line exactly like this one:

HARC_ESP.=Spanish HomeARC 1st Edition

         (Notice the "." before the equal sign. Don't forget it.)

         Then go down to the end of the file. You should see several lines starting with "ES", then about 15 lines starting with "H_" and ending with "HARC_ESP." Well, block these 15 lines starting with "H_" and ending with "HARC_ESP." & delete them. Then exit Notepad saving your file.

         Now exit the HomeARC program & start it again. You should now have access to all the Spanish groups on the Spanish HomeARC CD & all the English groups on the English HomeARC 98 CDs, and you should no longer have access to the old English groups that are on the Spanish HomeARC CD, since you don't need them anyway.
